Note:

  • In case a motorway goes inside urban area the maximum permitted speed for all vehicles is 80 kph.
  • In a 50 meters distance ahead a railway crossing the maximum permitted speed is 30 kph; in case there is white flashing light on, the speed limit is 50 kph.

 

Some additional information from the Highway Code

  • Trams turning right have always right of way.
  • Driver of any vehicle except tram should give way to pedestrians on the crosswalk.
  • BAC limit is 0,00 per mille for any drivers of motorized vehicles and also non-motorized vehicles.
  • Seat belts wearing is obligatory both in urban and out of urban areas for both driver and passengers.
  • In case of an accident a driver is obliged to put a warning triangle at least 50 meters behind of a vehicle, in case of a motorway a distance is at least 100 meters behind a vehicle; you should call police only in case the expected value of material damage is over 100 000 CzK (app.4000 EURO) or somebody is injured or killed or there is a material damage on public property.
  • Driver of a motor vehicle is obliged to transport a child which is less than 150 cm (4,92 ft)  high or weights less than 36 kg only in approved child restraint system.
  • Helmets are obligatory for both motorcycle and moped riders and passengers; in addition cyclists up to 18 year are obliged to wear a helmet when riding.
  • Bicycle helmets are obligatory for any biker younger than 18 years.
  • A day time running lights are obligatory during the whole year.
  • A blue line applied on a corb or on a pavement in some cities means restricted parking.   
  • It is prohibited to handle a mobile telephone while driving with except hands - free.

Since 1st November 2008 the Czech Police Force has started step – by – step exchange of its vehicle fleet. This exchange has brought a new design
of cars, sonowadays you can meet to types of design as follows:

  • White with a green stripe on doors
  •  New silver with yellow and blue blocks

Both variations have lettering “POLICIE” in black and “POMAHAT A CHRANIT” (To Help and to Protect) in white. The logo of the Czech Police Force is placed on the engine cove.

 

 

Do You Know These Road Signs?

Travelling in the Czech Republic you can meet some road signs which are not listed in the UN conventions and protocols. To prevent misundestandings we would like to show them to you and to explain what do they mean.

“Fog”
This road sign warns you that there should be a thick fog ahaead. Mostly used as a variable message sign.
