The Czech Police Force, the Traffic Police Branch registered 74 815 road traffic accidents with 832 persons killed, 3 536 person seriously injured and 23 777 persons slightly injured.
Comparing to 2008 a decrease has been registered in 2009 in all statistics items as follows:
- In number of road traffic accidents by 53,4 % ( - 85 561 road traffic accidents)
- In number of persons killed by 16,1 % ( - 160 persons)
- In number of persons seriously injured by 7,2 % ( - 273 persons)
- In number of persons slightly injured by 4,0 % ( - 999 persons)
From 832 persons killed in 2009 there were:
- 320 drivers of personal cars
- 157 pedestrians
- 148 passengers of personal cars
- 76 motorcyclists
- 72 cyclists
- 28 lorry drivers
- 14 lorry passengers
- 9 riders on small motorcycles (up to 50 ccm)
- 3 moped riders
Road traffic accidents caused under influence of alcohol
There were 5 725 road traffic accidents caused under influence of alcohol in 2009 of which 4 462 were caused by drivers of personal cars, 343 by drivers of lorries, 522 by cyclists, 203 by pedestrians, 132 by motorcyclists, 12 by drivers of agriculture tractors etc.
There were 123 persons killed and 2 658 persons injured in road traffic accidents caused under influence of alcohol, which represents 15 % of total number of persons killed and 9,7 % of total number of persons injured in 2009.
