Motorcycle riders belong to the most vulnerable road users in the Czech Republic. There were 118 killed motorcycle riders in 2008 (including moped and small motorycle riders), which represents 12 % of all persons killed in 2008. Motorcyclists caused 1 852 road traffic accidents with 71 persons killed.
The causes of road traffic accidents are almost the same – speeding, aggressive driving and risky behaviour of the rider. A great part of motorcycle accidents victims are young and novice riders.
This is the reason why that the Czech Ministry of Transport has decided to focus on this group of road users through its various preventive activities. These activitities include:
- Implementing the motorcycle problematics in to the key projects The Action and campaign “If do not think, you will pay” – there will be a special visual with motorcycle road traffic accident published soon as a part of this campaign
- Publishing and disseminations of the leaflet for young motorcycle riders
- Dissemination of information on various fairs and exihibition in the Czech Republic (e.g. MOTORCYCLE 2009 Exhibition in Prague, March 2009)
- Prevention of motocycle road traffic accidents is a integral part of a work of the BESIP Team which on its stages uses a motorcycle drive simulator to let visitors know about dangers when riding a motorcycle.
